THE OZONE HOLE

The ozone layer prevents the Earth to reach the lethal ultraviolet rays. The use of common «spray» by combing the hair and the operation of refrigerators and air conditioners are the main sources of destruction of the thin layer of ozone. This caused «holes» in the ozone layer, through which pass undisturbed by ultraviolet rays. If these holes grow (and indeed grow) and destroy much of the ozone layer is estimated to be millions of people die every year from skin cancer.

The environment puts an intolerable burden of radioactivity from both. For example, depleted uranium bombs used during the Gulf War in 1990 and the war in Kosovo in 1999 (and who knows where else) have contaminated soils and waters, not only in countries where wars were, and neighboring countries. Have caused many deaths and many diseases, especially in young children. Such contamination would last for many years. Specifically, the contamination will last 4.5 million years! Estimated to correct the evil done in the Balkans because of depleted uranium, needed about 30 billion U.S. dollars, an amount that not all people of the Balkans together.

But the peaceful use of atomic energy, pollute the environment, especially when an accident occurs. Eg the accident of Tchernobyl (Chernobyl) in the spring of 1986, estimated that around 5 million people found dangerously exposed to radioactivity. Similar accidents have been in other countries. Many of them never saw the light of day for obvious reasons. The soil and subsoil of the planet in recent years is beginning to deteriorate to a few meters from fertilizers and pesticides and other human interventions. In particular, in recent years, pesticides have been multiplied by 25 times, while synthetic fertilizers by 12 times. Herbicides and fertilizers are carried away by rainwater and enter the groundwater, causing massive pollution where huge areas. These pollutants fall into the seas, lakes and rivers, threatening serious, global, life in the water.

Overall, land and sea, infected by intolerable dispersion products is hazardous to our health, such as herbicides, the DDT, radioactive, plastics and other products. The landfills are flooding the world in hundreds of thousands, creating pollution and drinking water adjacent areas.

The Earth is beginning to show signs of severe fatigue. Territories in many parts of the world is exhausted and do not (as previously attributed) to agricultural crops, due to intensive exploitation. Groundwater scarcer, and what we left contaminated by the misuse of chemicals.

Tropical forests and all forest fires because of land reclamation and results in extinction. Fires destroy the lungs of the Earth. Half the forest wealth of the earth was burned in the last 30 years. The rate of clearing of tropical forests ranging from 10 to 20 million hectares a year. This means that people living around large forest areas to live in fear of floods that grows every year and more, because every year we have huge fires all over the world. A typical example is the areas around the Himalayas, where 50 έως 100 million people living with the nightmare of flooding.

The climate is changing in recent years and these changes seem to be big in the next 50 to 100 years. The causes of climate change are many, not least the increase in average temperature from 3 to 5 degrees Celsius for the next hundred years (see Figure 5.8). This increase will melt a proportion of ice in both poles of the earth and the water level in seas i go up and thus drown cities, beaches, forests and everything else is on the coast. Note that resides in coastal shores around 1 / 4 of the world population, that is now home to almost 1.5 billion people.

Reported that during the last 10,000 years the Earth's temperature has risen only 1 degree, while 100 years from now i 'increased approximately 3 to 5 degrees. How Do I 'increased to 500 or 1000 years? If the water level of the sea warms up even a single measure, then virtually all coastal areas will suffer. In some cases the damage caused is enormous, eg many small island states in the Pacific Ocean about going off the map, over half of industrial facilities in countries like Japan, Vietnam, Indonesia, Thailand and
